Algerian authorities stiffen measures to face “Swine Flu”

A crisis cell at the Algerian health ministry in charge of monitoring the swine flu development has revealed that it raised the alert to level five in the wake of the warning launched by the World health Organization in the direction to the world nations in order to take the necessary measures at earliest to face the pandemic.

  • The Algerian authorities have stiffened the precautionary measures raising the stocks of “Tami Flu” vaccines to 6.5 million units and nearly 50 thousand boxes of “Sai Flu” produced by the Algerian giant pharmaceutical “SAIDAL” in addition to 16 million masks and 1 million pairs of glasses.

  • According to the public relations official at the ministry, Belkacem Salim, Algeria has the required stock of masks to protect its citizens in case of the spreading of the pandemic to the country, and is ready to acquire more if necessary. He went on saying that a batch of masks were been distributed to epidemiologists, airports and ports’ staffs, as well as borders guards and those in charge of checking foreign comers especially from countries where the “H1N1” virus was detected.

  • The crisis cell made up of a ministerial committee counting 17 ministries was set by the health minister Said Berkat to face the danger of “Swine flu” epidemic in the country following the WHO warnings that raised the alert’s scale  to level 5 in 6, and the contamination moves from human to human.
